On Monday 25 August 2025, the northern outskirts of Manchester came alive with the sound of rock and roll and grunge as the city of Bury hosted an unforgettable charity event. This all day festival brought together volunteers, musicians, and music lovers for a cause that touched many hearts. With multiple outdoor stages and nearly every pub in town joining the effort, the event, known as Glaston-Bury, became a vibrant celebration of live music and community spirit.

A Festival Fueled by Volunteers and Local Venues

The success of this charity event rested on the dedication of a staff of volunteers who managed everything from ticket sales to stage setups. The queue for tickets stretched long throughout the day, a clear sign of the community’s eagerness to support the cause. Each pub in Bury lent its stage, creating a network of live music venues that kept the energy high and the music flowing.

This outdoor festival was more than just a series of performances; it was a gathering of people united by their love for music and their desire to give back. The event raised funds and awareness for Hospice and Macmillan, two charities that provide vital support to those facing serious illnesses.

Highlights from the Stage: Löser and Rachel’s Motörhead Tribute

One of the standout moments came from Löser, a Motörhead tribute act from Carlisle. Known for their blazing rock and roll sets, Löser brought their signature energy to Bury. They were joined on stage by Rachel, the front woman of Stockport-based Onion Mash, who lent her powerful vocals to Motörhead classics like "Please Don't Touch" and "Born To Raise Hell."

Rachel’s connection to the event runs deep. Originally from the area, she has performed at Glaston-Bury before with Onion Mash in one of the local pubs. Her return as a guest vocalist added a special touch to the day, blending local talent with the tribute band’s fierce sound.

Löser took the main outdoor stage at 3pm to a packed audience. Frontman Daz Evilhate expressed the band’s enthusiasm: “When we learned that Glaston-Bury raise funds and awareness for Hospice and Macmillan we were all-in to provide our support.” The band appreciated the chance to perform and praised the organizers for their hard work. Daz also highlighted the technical support they received, mentioning how their stage manager allowed them to bring their 4x15 and 4x12 Marshall stack on stage to ensure their Murder Too amplifier delivered a loud, proud sound.

Rachel shared her experience with a smile: “People were stopping me in the street all day asking if that was ‘Rachel from that Motörhead band.’ It was fun being recognised even if not for my own act Onion Mash.”

Closing the Day with Ego Trip’s Grunge Vibes

The outdoor "Originals Stage" closed the festival with Ego Trip, a post-grunge rock band from west Cumbria. Known for their original songs and gritty sound, Ego Trip brought a fresh energy to the event. Their seven-song album, available on Bandcamp, showcases their talent and dedication to the grunge genre.

Ego Trip’s performance was a fitting end to a day filled with diverse live music styles, from classic rock and roll to modern grunge. Their presence highlighted the festival’s commitment to supporting both tribute acts and original bands, giving audiences a broad musical experience.

The Spirit of Glaston-Bury and Its Impact

Glaston-Bury is more than just an outdoor festival; it is a community effort that brings together people from across Manchester and beyond. The event’s success depends on the passion of volunteers, the generosity of local venues, and the talent of musicians who donate their time and skills.

For charity supporters and music lovers alike, Glaston-Bury offers a unique chance to enjoy live music while making a difference. The event’s atmosphere, filled with the raw energy of rock and roll and the heartfelt emotion of grunge, creates lasting memories and strengthens community bonds.

This all day festival in Bury shows how music can unite people for a cause. It demonstrates the power of local action and the joy of sharing live music in support of important charities. For those who missed this year’s event, keep an eye out for future Glaston-Bury festivals and join the movement to rock for charity.
